This Fourth of July was a big celebration for America. With the country mostly reopened, fully vaccinated people and partially vaccinated people vacationed, traveled, gathered in large groups, and went maskless.
Now, several weeks later, there is a small spike in COVID-19 cases, causing some to worry about a third wave of the pandemic.
Most new cases in the US are caused by the Delta variant of COVID-19, which is suspected to be a more contagious virus than the original strain. Currently, the CDC says that fully vaccinated people can generally go without socially distancing or masks. Only about 13% of Americans are still socially distancing strictly and The World Health Organization suggests that social distance rules should be used to protect non-vaccinated people and low vaccination communities.
